Our Last Turkey Day

We decided to do Thanksgiving at home this year. My husband is a salesman at Nebraska Furniture Mart, Black Friday is a big deal. Because he had to get up early, we decided to forgo any long trips to my family, or his family’s, houses and do it at our house.

My husband did all the cooking. I ordered the turkey’s from Honey Baked Ham. We cheated a bit. He made rolls, green beans, corn, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, and there’s probably something I’m missing. It was all very good. We have left overs for days. Who doesn’t love Thanksgiving Day left overs?

Even though it was a short day, and a day that was taxing to my health, it was a very good Thanksgiving Day with family, and good food. And some football games too. Gotta have some football on turkey day.

I kept thinking, this will probably be our last Thanksgiving in this house. We’ve had 12 Thanksgivings in this home. Next year we’ll likely be in our new home. It’s bittersweet to think of… mostly sweet, with a little sad. I never had a stable home when I grew up. This home has been the only long term, consistent home I’ve lived in – got married in, brought kids home in, grew up in. Glad we got to celebrate this holiday here, a sweet memory for this time next year when we’re celebrating in our new home.

I hope your Thanksgiving was a good one.
