I love Waco. It isn’t good for a long trip. One or two days would be good for most people. And one of the things you must do there is go to the Cameron Park zoo. It’s such a unique zoo, with its winding path and tall bamboo. I really like this zoo. It’s small compared to many zoos which is another reason I really enjoy it. Two hours and you’re done. So day two was all about the zoo.

Let’s start with the start of the day and the end of the day. Kinda backwards but why not? We started with breakfast in the hotel and ended snuggled up in bed with our favorite souvenirs!

We got there right at opening and it was pretty empty of other people, which was nice. Although the animals were kinda spars at first too. Maybe they’d not woken yet.

Funnily enough, the vultures that are free to fly around were the most interesting part of the start of the zoo. They were every where and huge! Very interesting, believe it or not.

The birds and aquarium were really interesting. I think the aquarium was top 3 of the experiences at Cameron Park zoo for me. I love aquariums!

While there I had to take my picture under the Grammy Nell’s sign – just like I did the first time we visited the Cameron Park zoo a few years ago. It inspired me to think of my grandma name. I know that is a long ways away but it’s still fun to think of the future. Adam wants to be called Gramps and I’d love to be called Granny Nell. It goes great together too I’d say. Anyway, enough of that silliness. My kids are literally only teens but one day I will be a granny Nell!

Guys, we really had such a nice time with our kids this day. Even though they’re a bit old for a zoo, they still enjoyed their time, and chose their favorite moments and animals of the day. Mine were the giraffes! They were SO close and there was a baby. So cute! In fact, it was the daddy, mommy, grandma, and baby. I spent a good amount of time watching them.

Unfortunately, the elephants weren’t out, which was a huge disappointment to my youngest son. We did enjoy the rhinos though. The vultures were very interested in the rhinos.

There was still masked up areas in the zoo. So even though the mask mandate had been lifted in Texas, induvial businesses still get to choose if they require masks. They are uncomfortable but we respected their desires and wore the masks through much of the zoo.

The meercat was a favorite of the family. Isn’t it funny what we like the most? vultures that are every where and a tiny little meercat. The tiger was not having it, by the way.

See that baby orangutan? Ya, he was the absolute cutest and probably the highlight of me and my husband’s experience. He was so playful with us! We got to see the mama and maybe the daddy, hard to say.

Nell 411, I love buffalo! Like, a lot. And we got to see a few toward the end of our trip at the zoo. It was also a nice stopping point for us to rest a bit. Truth be told, I had a hard time physically as I have a lot of fatigue but over all I did well – as did my oldest and youngest who also deal with fatigue.

We ended our day at Fuzzy’s taco shop – have you heard of them? Funky name, fantastic food. We actually didn’t go to Magnolia or the Dr. Pepper Museum as we wanted to do new things (besides the zoo) with the kids, but if you are new to Waco I highly recommend both of those activities and they’re very close to one another.
We ended the day snuggled in beds, watching tv, and coming down from our exciting day.
I’ll hold onto these memories forever!
